Mission Statement

Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings' activities, including concerts, education programs and commissioning projects, are informed by this mission:

The purpose of DCWS is to provide world-class presentations of repertoire that vary in instrumentation but emphasize brass and woodwinds instruments. Through these presentations, DCWS will build rapport with audiences by performing in intimate concert settings. We will be nationally recognized for our contributions to the arts and locally acclaimed for encouraging young musicians.

What we mean by this mission:

Repertoire that varies in instrumentation: We will vary the number of musicians and mix of instruments to showcase our unique repertoire and bring variety to our concerts.

Provide world-class presentations: The work of our ensemble will be of the highest quality and presented by musicians with world-class talent.

Special emphasis on brass and woodwinds: Our primary focus will be chamber music which includes brass and woodwinds.

Build rapport with our audiences: We will involve our audiences with pre-concert presentations and provide many opportunities to interact with the musicians.

Performing in intimate concert settings: We will use smaller venues which encourage a sense of camaraderie among the musicians and a close connection with the audience.

Nationally recognized for our contributions to the art: We will commission new works and record consistent with our artistic vision. We will tour nationally and internationally to selected venues.

Locally acclaimed for encouraging young musicians: We will provide master classes, reach out to local students and showcase talented young musicians.
