Structurally Sound


DCWS is putting the "chamber" back in chamber music. Structurally Sound is a concert and lecture series that presents chamber music in architecturally significant spaces and works to relate the musical repertoire to the space's unique qualities.

Ken Thompkins and techno artist John Collins will mix the sounds of acoustic and electronic music in the lobby of "The Qube." Built in 1959 as the National Bank of Detroit, the Qube joined Detroit's skyline during the early stages of electronic music.

DCWS takes Structurally Sound to Detroit’s Eastern Market and the stunning gallery at Red Bull House of Art. The concert will pair cellist Debra Fayroian with pianist Luis Resto for a concert that cleverly and seamlessly combines the classic genres.

The incredible imagination of Marcus Schoon looks back to look forward, retrofitting old standards and classical masterworks into contemporary jazz at Recycle Here! Detroit, the plant in which Henry Leland first built Lincoln automobiles.

Trumpet Player Kevin Good will be joined by his brother Brian, physicist and saxophone player, and three other musicians to form a quintet that salutes the spectacular lobby of downtown Detroit's neo-classic gem, the Dime Building.
